Members of the Philippine American Press Club with Consul General Bensurto and Deputy Consul General Ascalon.

For the second year in a row, the Philippine American Press Club, USA held its annual Plaridel Awards Excellence in Filipino American Journalism at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center on 05 October 2017.

Inspired by the Father of Philippine Journalism, Marcelo H. del Pilar, who was also known by his pen name Plaridel, the Plaridel Awards honors all journalists, publishers, reporters, correspondents, producers and photographers who submitted print/online, and broadcast work for the scrutiny of a panel of judges.  The organization recognized members of the PAPC in sixteen (16) categories, including Best Commentary, Best Investigative Reporting, and Best News Story.  Post’s Tourism Office co-presented the Best Tourism Feature Story.

Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr. welcomed PAPC to the Center and congratulated the organization on its 29th anniversary and over 60 years of providing public service to the Community and called on its members to “remain steadfast in working with integrity and honesty.”  He thanked them for partnering with the Consulate in disseminating information to Filipino-Americans under its jurisdiction through the Talakayan sa Konsulado, which are information sessions that aid that Consulate in sharing relevant information to the Community, in support of the Consulate’s movement to Spark*Connect*Empower* the Community.

Post is proud to inform the Department that Deputy Consul General Jaime Ramon T. Ascalon received the Torchbearer Award for Public Service, citing his contributions to improving the delivery of Consular, ATN and other services to our kababayans.
