ON HURRICANE IRMA
ADVISORY NO. 3
8 September 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Filipino communities in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina are strongly advised to take extra precautions, including compliance with the evacuation orders of local and state authorities, as Hurricane Irma approaches the US mainland.

Although it has been downgraded to Category 4, Hurricane Irma continues to be potentially catastrophic, threatening torrential rains, winds, storm surges and flooding to areas along its path. It is also highly likely that it will cause disruptions in energy, water, transportation, communications, and other utilities.

“Those who are in high risk areas should be very vigilant in making the necessary preparations. Irma has already proven to be very destructive and we advise our people to put their and their families’ safety above all else,” said Minister Patrick A. Chuasoto, Chargé d’Affaires of the Philippine Embassy.
