17/12/2010: FILIPINO COMMUNITY USHERS IN THE SIMBANG GABI
The 3rd Annual Commissioning Mass to usher in the Simbang Gabi was held on December 11, 2010 at the Mater Dolorosa Parish with the Archdiocese of San Francisco’s Bishop William Justice as Principal Celebrant, and Filipino priests in the Bay Area as concelebrants.
Representatives of different parishes represented by their parols gather before Bishop William Justice for their blessing and “Commissioning“ of their parishes’ respective Simbang Gabi masses.
The Commissioning is about sending the Filipino community on a mission to be the light in their respective parishes. By this ceremony, the Archdiocese recognized the significant spiritual impact of the Filipino tradition of Simbang Gabi.
Through the years more and more parishes are being “commissioned” and are celebrating Simbang Gabi. To date, forty (40) parishes in the Bay Area celebrate the Simbang Gabi.
